Aluka

A far cry from the average ‘Andrews Sisters-esque’ a capella vocal group, Aluka sing contemporary original tunes that incorporate intricate harmonies, body and vocal percussion, tempo and time signature changes. Yet their sound is incredibly accessible; they have the uncanny ability to silence a rowdy crowd and draw the listener in.

Making their debut in early 2009, the trio have since released their debut EP (now out through www.youloverandom.com) in November at a sold out show at The Toff in Town, have joined Clare Bowditches band and have been invited to play at several festivals including the 2009 Queenscliff Music Festival.

Aluka was also voted as one of 2009's top ten local bands (Australia wide) on watchoutfor.com

Annabelle, Sally, and Rachael were perpetually frustrated by the false notion that you are either a ‘singer’ or a ‘musician’; that a solo vocalist was somehow less of a technical artist than someone with an instrument in their hands. Perhaps they started the a cappella group to prove a point (that you don’t need an acoustic guitar to be heartfelt or a drum kit to have rhythm!)... But since collaborating together they have fostered a musical bond, forming gorgeous sounds capes of vivid sonic colour with nothing but their vocal chords.
