Nev and The Blues

Nev & The Blues is an act that’s been performing intimate venues around Melbourne’s near east for about three years in various pubs, soirees and as a guest at CD launches of some of the highly talented singer-songwriters of the independent music scene.

Nev goes much further back than that as a seasoned Gospel pianist, and eight-year resident house pianist at one of Melbourne’s busiest Hotels. Led by Nevil Schultz, the recent incarnation of Nev & the Blues plays an eclectic mix of rhythmic, but sometimes soulful Blues, Jazz & Lounge originals & covers of well-known standards.

The poetic Lyrics of Nev’s songs come out of his perception of the twists & turns that give us a dose of the blues in the contemporary world. The musical inspiration comes from the great compositions and sounds of the blues from the past, but particularly from his musical Journey to New Orleans and New York in 2006.

Nev has been fortunate to literally rub shoulders with musical greats such as George Cables, the great jazz pianist with Art Blakey’s Messengers and a many musicians in New Orleans. Nev entertained on the keys in late April 2006, at The Spotted Cat, New Orleans, to the delight of locals.

The mix of sounds he creates solo & with his band vary in pace and mood, but usually ends up the evening with the strong vibes & pulse of the blues one can jive to.
