GERALDINE QUINN

Songwriter, actor, comedian, guitarist, singer, ginger and wit-slinger: Geraldine Quinn’s black humour and rock stylings have confirmed her position in the industry since 2004. Her debut A Pint of Absinthe sold out as did Something For The Weekend in 2005. The Quintessential sold out again in March 2006, after which Bad Ambassador played the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival (sold out), Gilded Balloon during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and two repeat seasons in Melbourne.

In 2007 and 2008, Quinn toured with the MICF Roadshow. She has appeared on ABC TV’s Spicks and Specks, the Comedy Channel (Stand Up Australia) and twice guested on ABC Radio’s Comedy Hour. SEXDEATHBOWIE (2007) earned Quinn 4-5 star reviews internationally. In 2008 Dumb Things sold out Melbourne’s Midsumma Festival and MICF and played to full houses in Adelaide.

In 2007 Geraldine Quinn won Victoria’s Green Room Award for Best Emerging Cabaret Artiste (also nominated for Original Songs), performed with renowned Australian artist Paul Kelly at The Spiegeltent (Just Came Out Of A Coma) and was inducted into Who’s Who of Australian Women.

Quinn recorded her live album with a full band at The East Brunswick Club in October 2008. Her 2009 show Hex and the City played Adelaide Fringe (sold out, 5 stars - Adelaide Advertiser) and Melbourne International Comedy Festival (sold out) and Edinburgh Fringe 2009 (sold out).

In November 2009 she won the second annual Short + Sweet Cabaret competition. At the same Shut Up and Sing played at the
Adelaide Fringe Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2010 (sold out) and was nominated for a Golden Gibbo Award for best local independent production.

Possessor of an astonishing voice, a wicked sense of humour and a keen intelligence, this queen of hardcore cabaret is a force to be reckoned with.

MARK JONES

Mark’s credits as a singer/actor include The Beautiful Losers (The Melbourne Comedy Festival, The Adelaide Cabaret Festival), Goodbye Vaudeville Charlie Mudd (The Malthouse Theatre), Good Evening – the sketches of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore (The Sydney Opera House), Me and Mr Jones (Don’t Tell Mama, Chapel Off Chapel, The Adelaide Cabaret Festival), The Suicide Show (The Victorian Arts Centre), Everybody’s Got Something to Hide (Except for me and my Monkey) (The Adelaide Cabaret Festival), Three Weill Men (Chapel Off Chapel, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, The Famous Spiegeltent), Eurobeat (South Korean Tour), Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris (Anthill, Chapel off Chapel).

In 2009 he was nominated for a Helpmann Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Play for Goodbye Vaudeville Charlie Mudd. Green Room awards include The Beautiful Losers - Best Cabaret Ensemble 2007 & 2006, Three Weill Men – Best Musical Direction of a Cabaret 2002 and Jacques Brel is Alive And Well And Living In Paris - Best Cabaret 2000.

KARLIS ZAID

Karlis graduated from what was once known at the Victorian College of the Arts’ School of Drama. He also trained at The Actors’ Centre, London.

Most recently, he appeared in The Drowsy Chaperone for Melbourne Theatre Company, alongside Geoffrey Rush. In 2009, he collaborated and appeared in The Suicide Show at The Victorian Arts Centre, which has been nominated for 4 Green Room Awards.

Since 2005, he and Mark Jones have regularly written for and performed with The Beautiful Losers, at venues and events such as The Malthouse Theatre, The Adelaide Cabaret Festival, The Melbourne Comedy Festival and The Famous Spiegeltent, winning Green Room Awards in 2006 and 2007 for Best Ensemble. In 2005, Karlis won a Best Actor award for The Example, (directed by Sam Strong) at The Short & Sweet Festival.

Other stage work includes : Scrimshander (Melbourne Theatre Co.), Remembrance Of Things Past (Melbourne International Festival), Jack Rabbit (Victorian Arts Centre), The Caucasian Chalk Circle (Victorian College of The Arts), The Danger Age (Tasmanian Theatre Co.), Les Misérables (Cameron Mackintosh), Jesus Christ Superstar (Harry M Miller), I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change (EHJ).

Karlis sang as a soloist for the Queen Symphony, with the Victorian State Orchestra.
