Nicholas Roy

As a piano player / singer-song writer, Nicholas Roy is somewhat unusual in the indie rock venues he frequently plays. Regularly slotted in amongst jangling guitar bands, his material often surprises audiences and has been very well received. Whilst living temporarily in Western Australia in 2006, Nicholas produced and recorded his debut EP titled Cardboard Heart, which sold well at gigs.

Upon returning to his hometown of Melbourne, Nicholas began working together with writer/producer Jaime Jimenez and further developed his song writing skills, recording great songs and enhancing his live shows. With a home recording set up, Nicholas is creating a sound and style that is quite unique, yet very accessible.

In 2007 his single Devilish Smile which received some airplay on Triple J and community stations across Melbourne. This single was followed up with a second EP Taxi, which featured four songs and was released independently. The title track was given airplay on several different programs on Triple J. The EP received some critical acclaim in the Melbourne street press in addition to being featured on Richard Kingsmill’s best new releases of the week program ‘2008’, the song also received a 4-star rating on the Unearthed website.

Nicholas created a home-made video clip for Taxi to complement the release, that has subsequently been played on Rage and viewed hundreds of times on youtube.com, Facebook, Myspace and on the officical www.nicholasroy.com website. The song drew the attention of Dunlop Foams and was subsequently licensed for use on their website.

Late 2009 saw the release of Nicholas’s debut album In A Shoebox Under The Bed. The album received some excellent reviews in the indie media, with Nicholas vocal style being compared to the great Peter Gabriel. Dangerous Game was the single lifted from this album, with another self-funded video, which received regular video – play the music program GO! (Channel 9 – digital) and Rage. The song was also a weekend favourite on Triple J. …which brings us to the present story of success…With the above steady stream of well received music releases, some radio and video airplay, combined with regular touring across Melbourne and East Coast venues, it was the next single release that would strike a chord with the masses of discerning music listeners!

It’s All My Fault, a simple song with unique and meaningful/genuine lyrics that people can relate to, brilliant melody, Nicholas’ trademark straight from the heart, melancholic – yet soulful vocal style, was delivered to Triple J December 2010, which has lead to the current and further emerging success of this artist.

The song received instant airplay the week of delivery and was aired on 2009 – Best New Releases of the week with Triple J’s Richard Kingsmill. Since then It’s All My Fault has been on a steady upward climb ever since, building Nicholas’ artist profile within the Indie music scene.

Nicholas is touring for the next couple of months and currently in label negotiations.
