Shu Liu in association with magro

The group formed in Boston, USA in 1994 with the guitarist, Masaru Uchida (Berklee College of Music) and and poet, Miyuki Ogata (myu). With a focus on live performances, the group travelled Canada and America under the name [jazzaholic*].

After returning to Japan in 1998, the group travelled across Japan, performing and collaborating with a wide range of musicians and artists.

In 2003, they participated in Habiscream (Main MC of the popular Hip Hop group ‘Soul Scream’)’s solo album [The Circle] and handled the remix of the Chemistry’s (well known idol group) ‘Ashita e Kareu’.

In 2006, following the release of the album [Maguro] produced by Hal-oh Togashi (ex-member of IMA band. Producer of Japanese pop scene, Piano and synth player), the band’s name [magro] was born.

In 2007, they participated in Hal-Oh Togashi’s album [Tokyo Baron]. Following which, the album [Akai Hana] was released in 2008.

In 2010, following the release of the self-produced album [Tabi no Tsukiyo], the current band was formed with Gagaku Hichiriki-player, Motonori Miura (graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts) and artistic genius, Takuya Kohiyama (also a graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts), together with Simon Kato of [Kazenohito] on percussion and Tsugaru Shamisen. From here, their current style was born.

Most recently in 2011, they co-produced a monthly event titled [Sakana no Utage] (Fish’s Feast) at a Jamaican Restaurant in Shibuya. They were also joined by DJ Alah who creates the environmental atmosphere with varieties of samples and mix.
