James Dowdeswell

“ **** James Dowdeswell is a real master of the comedian’s craft. It is a genuine pleasure to be in the company of this master gag smith for an hour, an experience that few should really pass up.” Chortle
James is a charming English comedian who has performed his stand-up all around the world from Shanghai to Dubai. Last year he toured Australia as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow.
Now James “So nice you could take him home to meet your grandparents.” Metro (UK) is back in Melbourne with “No More Mr Nice Guy” after a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
He has performed four feature length solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival: “No More Mr Nice Guy” (2008), “Wine” (2007), “7” (2005) and “Dowdesworld” (2003). Most recently he performed “James Dowdeswell Sticks His Nose In” at the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival in March 2009.
James has made various TV appearances including Extras (BBC) where he played Count Fuckula (in the David Bowie episode). He has also been filmed for the Paramount Comedy shows Edinburgh And Beyond and The World Stands Up.
This all seems a far cry from back in 2000, when a fresh-faced young James won the Jongleurs New Act Award and supported Phil Kay on a national tour.
“ **** Intelligent and inventive” The List
“ **** Feel good comedy with a capital F. If he isn’t a sell out I’ll eat my hat.” Three Weeks
“Daniel Kitson may have spearheaded this sort of touching, delicate comedy of awkwardness, but there’s surely more room than one comic to follow the same style, and the next could be the scrawny Mr Dowdeswell.” chortle.co.uk
